Finished! Master Librarian Ezekiel

After a couple snowed in days after the holiday break I gave birth to Ezekiel, Grand Master Librarian of the Dark Angels. This is the second time I've painted this character and he's still hot. It might just be me but I think he really grabs that knightly look of the Space Marines.

With the upcoming Dark Angels release I sent him off the wilds of E-bay. Happy bidding!..Or what I really mean is, make me happy and bid.

Finished! Blood Angels Furioso Dreadnought

One down two to go. This is part of a LARGE commission from a way back. Slow and steady. There is still a Librarian and a Death Company dread on the way...Then five tanks.. Once I have them all done I'll commence a little freehanding :) Here's where I'm letting this guy sit until the others are at the same line.

Blood for the Blood God? Naw, for the Emperor.

More IG on the way

I wanted to post a quick update on "project meatshield" as I've dubbed it. The meat is prepped and now it's time for some airborne reinforcement. It came in the form of two Valkyries. This was a new one for me, I haven't painted a model airplane in decades. Fun! It has me fired up to maybe follow through with the vehicle entry I have planned for Gamesday 2013.

I've also been putting together another little something for next year's events. So far so good.

Stay tuned in the future as I wrestle with Nemeroth and who knows what else. Too many things on the table to count :)

Finished! Ogre Kingdoms Tyrant

All painted and ready to slaughter/eat.

Another piece for the gallery. Next he'll be making his way to Texas. This was a very captivating project for me. The additional level of sculpting and then painting has been an enjoyable process. My next single model project is of a similar process. This time I'll be trying to replicate a character, Nemeroth, from the space marine video game.

But not before finishing off that meatshield know as an Imperial Guard Detachment...Today's project, more on them soon :)

In progress: Tyrant of the Ogre Kingdoms

How much do I love you? So much it's my birthday and I'm making a post just for you. In all the commotion what's really on mind is, as usual, painting. I just finished off the metals this afternoon..Possibly a coat of rust wash is in order but I like where he's going.

I should have him licked tomorrow pending a hangover. Stay tuned :)

Finished! One Imperial Guard Platoon

The Poor Bloody Infantry.

With the allies rule of 6th edition the Imperial Guard are working overtime.

I still have 18 heavy weapon teams and two Vendettas to go before this meatshield is done.

Ogre Kingdoms Tyrant WIP

Fattened on the gluttony of Thanksgiving the Tyrant is ready for paint. I've entirely sculpted the legs so don't look under his dress. I'm not the best of sculptors but we'll see how it takes some paint.

Finished! Uren's Son

I wrapped up this project over the weekend :) I tried some different things with the color choices in the shading and I'm happy the way it came out. The tattoos could use a little more attention but for now I like him the way he is.

Another thing to be happy about is I'm going to see Gwar tonight :D

Next up I double promise I'll show off the Ogre Tyrant before getting some paint on him.

Finished! Cockatrice from Baelor Miniatures

Release the chicken of war! After a little back and forth with the color choices I eventually arrived on a nice combination.

You can get your very own Chickenosaur right here

Next up is an Ogre Kingdoms Tyrant I've been sculpting away on. Stay tuned :)

WIP Cockatrice

Round one with the chicken of death. Here he is with some airbrushing to get some colors rolling. I'm planning on making the green area on the ground a small swampy area..Not sure what the Cockatrice's natural habitat would be so maybe it  spends it's time harassing a trade route? With a little imagination everything fits.

I found this on a pretty cool site while searching for some reference material. Very cool stuff :)

Uren's Son WIP

Very slowly I'm able to work on projects for myself. For this one I've picked Uren's son from Rackham's Confrontation range. For this project I set a goal for myself to make things more interesting. Most of the time I'm limited for time based on how much I'm being paid so for this piece I told myself I'd spend a minimum of 30 hours on him. At this point I've hit the 16 hour mark.

We'll see where this goes. I still want to add tattoos and I wouldn't call anything really finished on him at this point.

A pair of big 'uns

Over the weekend and until this point I've been chipping away on an Imperial Guard detachment. 18 heavy weapon teams and 26 guardsmen...So far I've painted two colors..Tomorrow I'll paint one color..

Don't worry, I've been receiving some more interesting commissions too. The first one I'm going to tackle is an Orge Kindgoms Tyrant. To start I picked up a box of Ironguts, I don't know what I'll do to finish but it involves a lot of putty. Much more to sculpt on him but I'm going in a good direction.

For Sale! Grey Knight Librarian

Another Knight for the wilds of E-bay.  I was experimenting with true metallics on this one. Basically laying down the metals and glazing non metallic colors on top. He's a little flamboyant as I imagine the Grey Knights to be.

Finished! Dark Vengeance Tactical Squad

A recent tabletop level commission. Compared to the rest of the kits in the box the sculpting on these guys is a little boring. But everybody wants Space Marines so... At any rate here they are for your viewing pleasure.

Finished! Lilith Herald of Everblight

This was one of my entries in the Privateer Press Contest at Gen Con. I was happy to take home a Gold for her. I had fun with the biomechanical freehanding and I'm going to work on that technique more in the future. I'm not sure if a rippling cape is the best area to apply the freehanding to. I think I'm going to seek out a flatter surface for future experiments.

Finished! Grey Knights Army

Fresh for the table I present the finished Gray Knights. I was in a rush to get them photographed and the shots suffered a little as a result but there's still something worth showing in there. Enjoy :)

Finished! Wreck-Age Reclaimers

The Wreck-Age catalog keeps expanding :) Two Reclaimers and a trio of Pack Dogs. Can't wait to see what they have coming up next. The Reclaimers role in the future is venturing out and searching for whatever abandon technology they come across. Even if they don't know how it works.

Well, it's back to work on the Grey Knights for me. I've also made some headway on a little personal project I should have up here in the near future.

Finished! Earthborn Dire Troll

This guy was part of my diorama entry from the P3 contest at Gen Con this year. It was quite an effort getting him together, if you're a regular follower here you might remember that process. I wanted to get some  better shots of just him and finally got around to it last night. Enjoy :)

Friday Scatterbrains

Another week rounding out and more projects pounded in :) So far it's been a productive week. Here's what I've been up to.

The main focus for the week has been the recent Grey Knights commission. Here's where I was at before starting on them yesterday. Times this picture by 25 ;) They're almost done and then I'll be taking some time to add freehand designs and other embellishments on the characters.

But today I'm taking a momentary break from them to work on some more miniatures for Wreck-Age. This time I'm painting up some Reclaimers and Pack Dogs

Blurry, but primed and ready.

Upon staring at my shelf like I often do I realized I haven't added to my own collection since mid August before Gen Con...I decided it would be nice to add to my Hordes collection, especially since it's been gaining some momentum around here. I also have an excessive build up of Rackham miniatures.

the solution:

Uren's Son should make a good proxy for a whole range of medium based models in the future. If you don't know I play trolls and he's about the same size as all the light beasts in the book.

So there you have it. One Commission for  an entire army, one of show quality for a manufacturer, and one personal project to sink my teeth into..The mind wanders..

Fire for Effect Games, Year One

Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of scoping out a new store some of my friends have opened up. Although incomplete at the time they opened the doors up to a few friends and hobbyists to take in the scenery. I brought along a Grey Knights army I've been commissioned recently. The dreaded Draigo, paladin detachment.

Here's a shot of the Paladins I took before heading down. Much progress was happily made at the new location :) I wish the best for my friends and their new endeavor.

Also, thanks for the wine and cheese.
